Evaluation - Activity 7

Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Preliminary Task

In this preliminary task we filmed Chris and Matt having a quick conversation. In this short space of time we decided to experiment with different camera shot to see what looks good. We have included over the shoulder shots, establishing shot, medium shot, close up and match on action we also use a long shot of matt walking down the stairs at the end of the conversation. We also tried other techniques in this preliminary task included the black and white effect nearer the end and we also added sound at the end but for some reason it doesnt play on youtube. In our Final two minute opening scene we used two simple rules and we stuck to them; 180 degree rule and match on action. Both of these can be viewed on our final video several posts below.

Comparisons

Both shots above show match on action as a character walks through the door. The one on the right is from our preliminary task and the one on the left is from our two minute opening, Detainment. The first thing you notice is the quality between the two, the one from detainment is better quality because we have tried many different way to films this shot and different techniques to improve quality. The shot on the right is a simple easy shot looking straight on and can get away with some mistakes with match on action due to the big doors and not being able to see the other side. Whereas the shot from detainment is at a more difficult angle meaning the match on action from the previous shot must be near perfect in order to look good.

The two shots in the above scree grab show two close up shots. The one on the right being the one from the preliminary task and the one on the left being from our film Detainment. The one on the right is a simple rather boring close up view looking down on the phone but the quality is rather poor as it was hand held and rather shaky. The one from detainment was used with a tripod so the quality is better it is also and an interesting angle which is different and it shows the Shaun struggling to get the door open.

This is the over the shoulder shot. This is one of the most popular shots used in many films when someone is having a conversation with another. Once again the one on the left is better quality than the one from the preliminary task as the tripod has been used once again. You can also see more of what is happening in the detainment shot and it could almost be an over the shoulder establishing shot as it is giving the audience a view of what the room looks like and both characters.

Evaluation - Activity 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

We have used many different software, tools and technology in constructing and completing our two minute opening scene for our film, Detainment. listed below are the stuff we have used;

School/Home computers - To edit, upload and research stuff on our blogs and other software.

Video Camera & Tape - Both of these where supplied by the school and we used these to film and record our two minute opening scene.

Tripod - This was used a lot and enabled us to film a good steady shot and enhance the viewing for the audience as well as helping us create interesting angles and movement.

Kitchen Knife & Fake blood - We used these for our murder scene. The knife was provided by the school along with a pipette to hold the fake blood so we could perform our cutting scene.

Memory Stick - This was very important as it allowed us to transfer files from home to school and via versa. It also allowed us to take the finished two minute scene home and upload it from there as the school computers wouldn't upload the video.

Adobe - This was one of the most important things, Adobe Premier Elements 8. We used this software at school to edit our opening scene and add music to it. We also used Adobe photoshop to create scree grabs in earlier Evaluation activities.

Blogger - This is the website that allowed us to create our blogs and present our research and all of our work to teachers, other students and the whole world by a click of the mouse.

Youtube - Without Youtube we would of found it difficult to upload our two minute opening scene to any website for everyone to see. We also where able to get other videos from there that might of been part of our research. Lastly a tool on Youtube allowed us to add caption on to our final video to let viewers know what we thought was best from each scene and what wasn't so good.

School Premises - This allowed us to film our opening scene without many distractions and when ever we wanted to. It also allowed us to move equipment from one place to another with easy as well as not losing any equipment, say if we where filming outside of school.

Evaluation - Activity 5

How did you attract/address you audience?

Here is our final film but we have added captions, telling you what we think what different part would attract to our target audience.

Evaluation - Activity 4

who would be the audience for your media product?

From research about other films similar to ours, a horror, we have been able to gather information about who our niche market are. I have used a web site called, Pearl and dean. This has helped me look at same genre films to ours and who where their biggest audience and who they aimed their film at. The film 'Halloween', which is a certificate 15 focused on the ages 15-24, 60% being male and 40% being female. This is the same with another horror film, 'The Unborn' who also focused on being 15-24 years old. Looking at this research, it helped us decide who we aimed our film at.

The picture above is Daniel 21years old and enjoys life. He is working as a mechanic and enjoys going and and partying and just having a good time with his mates. He enjoys music such as Drum n Bass, Garage and Jungle music and wears fresh clothing that his age group would wear in today's world. This would include such brands as, Fred Perry, Lyle and Scott, Original Penguin, Franklin & Marshall and would shop in such shops as Topman. He enjoys many different kind of media but in particular T.V. He watches such series as Shameless, The Inbetweeners and music channels like, MTV and Kiss. To perhaps help our film appeal to Daniel we have included branded clothes that are worn by Shaun the victim and throughout the whole film other people would wear noticeable branded clothing. We could of also added in a clip of a soundtrack when introducing Shaun into our film for the first time which also could of helped appeal to people such as Daniel.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

A media institute that we thought could distribute our film, could be Rogue Pictures. We thought Rogue pictures would be the best institution to distribute our film as they have many horror/horror comedy/comedy films in there library. Rogue Pictures is owned by a label called Focus Features who are owned by one of the biggest film makers/distributors in the world, Universal. This would make it for our film to get into cinemas across the UK due to their vast resources. Rouge picture will not only distribute our film but they may also help with finding suitable conditions for our film to be filmed in, raising finance and help finding key personal, such as; directors, cast etc. to help with the process of our film. Rogue work with low budget films all under $12,000,000 such as, Shaun of the Dead (horror comedy), Seed of Chucky (horror) and The Strangers (horror). As they work with many horror films they will be able to help us possible make our film a great succes on a low budget like another one of their films Hot Fuzz, which had a budget of £8,000,000. Being owned by Focus Features who are owned by Universal, Rogue pictures will have no trouble advertising the film to our target audience to gain their interest.

Evaluation - Activity 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In our two minute opening scene for our horror film called 'Detainment' there are two main characters; Shaun McGee, the victim and The Killer. Shaun doesn't have much influence throughout the whole film, but only in the two minute opening scene. The killer who plays a more vital role through the whole film, so I have decided to pick the killer to represent killers in different horror films, like Scream in the screen grab above and how ours compares.

Both Killers from, Scream and our film Detainment both represent a typical stereotype of a killer in a horror film. Both characters dress quiet similar in long clothing giving an impression they could be hiding something. The only difference is our killer is dresses in a white lab coat to give an impression that it could be a teacher who is the killer, where as in Scream it suggest it could be anyone and doesn't give away any ideas. Another similarity between the two killers is that through out the film there identity is covered when killing to keep the killer a mysterious character as well as keeping the audience guessing who it could be. It is also important to come across as powerful when presenting a killer in a horror. The killer must seem big, scary and dominant to show that they are different to everyone else and that they stands out because they are the killer.

Evaluation - Activity 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings)

Title of The Film: As a group of four we came up with the name 'Detainment' we all thought this was good as it has not been used for any other film and it meaning fits in well with our film. Detainment means - 'To keep in custody or temporary confinement.' This fits in well with our opening two minutes because this is what has happened to Shaun McGee, the main character, he ends up being detained in a classroom due to being in detention for not doing work and he then finds himself being killed because he had been detained.

Setting/Location: The setting for our two minute is set on school grounds which made it easier to film and organise when we would film. The building we filmed, in and out, is an old wood and brick built science block which has lots of character and almost a scary/eerie feel. filming inside the old science block meant that there was old furniture in there and things where falling apart, this enabled us to give a better sense of verisimilitude throughout the whole opening scene.

Costume & Props: Shaun, who is the main character in the two minute opening scene, is wearing normal clothes any normal teenager would wear; blue jeans, t-shirt, coat and white trainers. This shows us that Shaun isn't scruffy and neither is he rich and wears designer clothes, this might reflect on his personality as well. The teacher is dressed smartly and how a science teacher would; black jeans/trousers, a shirt, a long white lab coat and a pair of glasses. Dressing him like this shows the authority difference between the teacher and Shaun, also putting glasses on the teacher makes him come across as more intelligent and even more powerful. Lastly we have the killer, he is wearing jeans, a hoddie, and a long white lab coat. Dressing the killer like this enables us to hide their identity and also confuses the audience due to the killer wearing a white lab coat like the teacher. The killers prop is one of the important things in the film and that is the knife he/she uses to kill his victim, Shaun.

Camera work & Editing: We have decided to use simple but effective shots throughout the two minute opening scene. We have used over the shoulder shots when the teacher is speaking to Ben, we have used high angle shots to make Shaun feel vulnerable and powerless, also to give the effect he is on a security camera, like he being watched. We also used long, medium and close up shot throughout the opening scene. The shot in screen grab 4 is my favourite shot. This is because it makes the audience feel like they are spying on Shaun and creates the feeling that he audience are part of the film. I also like this because it is an unique shot that not many people have tried to use in their two minute openings.

Title Font & Style: The font we decided to use is plain and simple, it is easy to read an attracts the audience. We made sure not to make fancy writing because this may confuse the audience and frustrate them because they may not be able to read the credits. The actually title of our film is in big bold letters which is in red with a black background. We chose to do this so that the title of our film which is in red to symbolise death and blood would be able to stand out on a plain black background.

Story and how the opening scene sets it up: Our story is like most horror film plots. We have a killer or maybe even killers, that are killing 'innocent people apparently for no reason at all, and it is down to one of the first victims best friend to find out what is happening. the two minute opening scene really sets up the rest of the film very well. It is important to include something the audience wants to see in the few minutes of the opening scene so they are drawn in and carry on watching the film and hopefully 'get lost' in the film. The opening scene also introduces the main character of the whole film, 'The killer'. This is important because the killers identity is a secret in the first two minutes and the audience will want to watch more to find out who it is.

Genre and how the opening suggests it: The genre of our film is Horror. We decided to chose horror because it wasn't difficult to to come up with ideas and settings, compared with a Comedy or a Sci-Fi and we also didn't have a budget to go to wild with our ideas. The opening suggest it's a horror with quick cuts nearer the end of the opening scene as well as scary non-digetic sound. There is also a bit of the opening scene where the camera shows a white board with writing on it which include; Death, Blood, Die, R.I.P etc.. This suggest that this is a horror film and now the audience should defiantly know.

How the characters are introduced: Shaun is introduced straight away but we do not immediately see his face instead we see just his feet walking for roughly 10 seconds ( see screen grab 8) then it cuts to a shot behind a bush like someone is watching him, and we see his face and what he looks like. We also learn that Shaun is quite impatient as he throws a pen at the white board in frustration that the teacher is taking his time to come back. The teacher is introduced to look quite smart and superior to Shaun, but he also has an element of nerves about him which may suggest that he is a new teacher trying to make himself known. The killer is last to be introduced and he/she makes a big entrance. The killers face is covered up so no one can see his/her facial expressions or emotions when killing Shaun.

Special Effects: The only special effect we used was when we did the murder part of the two minute opening scene. We had to come up with an idea of how to make a cutting of the neck look realistic without actually cutting Matt, who played Shaun. To do this we looked on youtube for ideas and found one that would suit our style of murder. We taped a pipette filled with fake blood to the handle of the knife so the blood could easily be disbursed and then we used the blunt side of the knife to make it look like Shaun was being cut.

Audience Feedback

Here is some feedback that we have had from our audience:

grreesbutt- over all i think there is a good use of camera shots and movement e.g. long shots medium shots tacking and canted angle shots. The things that could be improved could be that when the evil guy slits Matt's throat he should have done it with the sharp edge of the knife instead of the blunt side to give a better sense of verisimilitude (authenticity).

Chris olney- I really liked this film, i felt that the music went well with the scene and also the flickering lights was also really good. If there was one thing that you could improve on would be by using more fake blood as there was only a little bit but other than that, AWESOME!!

Tony- really liked the film, i liked the high angle which shows that the character is vulnerable also it seems like he is being watched by someone. Tom- nice lads i like it.Jamie- pretty good, i enjoyed the scene when the lights are flickering and the killer is slowly moving towards Shaun. I thought that the killing scene was good but maybe you should of used a fake knife so that you would be to use the right side of the knife, but still looks good.

Max- good film, not to sure about the end where the killer gently drops Shaun on the film also using the wrong side of the knife, but other than that i think you used good camera shots and movements throughout the film. The music also worked well i thought.

We feel that we could improve a couple of things such as the knifing scene. This was a hard scene to act out as we had to use a real knife to make it look authentic and appeal to the audience. The audience seemed to enjoy the music that we used. They also thought the camera shots were good and made the film better.

Editing

Now we have finished all of our filming, we must upload all of our footage onto the school computers so we can edit our footage to create the perfect two minute opening scene that we want. To upload the video footage and edit we need to use a software called Adobe Premier Elements. This software allows us to cut things out and swap bits around and enable us to have match on action in any scene where there are two camera angles used on one part of the film. It also allows us to add music over the top of the video to create tension and to make it scary as our genre is horror.

Music/Sound 2

After alot of searching on many website we found a website called freeplaymusic.com. This website allows you to freely download 15 second - 1/2 minutes clips of sound effects or actually soundtacks. We wanted to find a track that would grip the audience and make them scared and on the edge of their seat. The type of tracks that would do this would be quick, jumpy sounds and loud noises that are not pleasant to hear. Choosing the right music to go with a scene is important because it can add so much to a plain scene and make it seem exciting. Here are the three soundtracks we have decided to use;

Filming Has Come To An End!

After several weeks of planning how and what we are going to film and included in our two minute opening scene, we have now finished. We finished filming couple of days ago after spending two hours after school to get everything finished and filmed the way we all wanted it to be. The next step to complete the whole film is now to add music and edit parts of our opening scene, which we will do in the coming week.

Fake knife cut with blood

This is the knife trick we have used in our film. This trick is easy and cheap to do as all you need as a fake knife, a pipet and fake blood. In our film it works quite well and looks realistice although it took 2 takes to make it look right.

Props

As a group we had almost decided on which weapon choice the killer will use on his victim, but to see what the audience thought we did a poll to see what they would most like to see the killer use. After 5 day the poll closed and the killer using a knife was the most popular so we decided to go with that as it is what the audience would like to see, as well as it's easy for our group to act out.

This is the actually knife that we will use to kill the victim, played by Matt Davison.

This syringe is going to contain blood in it so we can carry out our knife cutting trick to make the audience think the murder is real.
The tubing pictured above is a very important part of the knife trick. This connects the knife to the syringe so the blood can squirt out realistically.

The pictures above and below are what the finish product looks like when it is all put together. when we show the killer using this we will use a close-up/extreme close-up of the knife cutting the victims neck so that we cant see the tubing or syringe.

Questionnaire Feedback

After collecting all the questionnaires and looking at the data we have found that mostly male audience like watching horror films as well as action and comedy films. Some females also like watching horrors but not as much as males. Female viewers like to watch comedy's, romantic and chick flick films. Vast majority of the people who took the questionnaire said that the first several minutes of the opening part of the film is important, as it is supposed to grip you and make you want to carry on watching the film. You can quite easily tell what the film is going to be like from just the first five minutes. When asked where do you prefer to watch a film there was a mixed review between the cinema and at home. This is because both have their plus sides and their negative sides. The pluses for cinema is that you can enjoy the wide screen and surround sound experience, no where else to be seen, but then when it comes to price you end up spending around £15-£20 on ticket and Food & Drink. Where as at home you can go to the shop and by what ever food & drink you want at a cheap price and DVD's cost around £10 if not less. The only negative is that you do not get the full experience of a film compared to the cinema

Questionnaire

This is just a little questionnaire to see what you as the audience of many film, like to watch, where to watch, and whats important to you as the paying public. please respond to the questionnaire by clicking on the 'comments' just below this post and write your answer there!!

  • Age................

Audience Profiling

I have used the pearl and dean website which is great for looking up any film you want and reading review and what kind of people watch certain films. I looked at films similar to ours and who where the target audience. This can help us decided who we can present our film to.

Update & Time Management

As you know from a couple of posts ago we have started filming just before we broke up for half term. We have set a deadline to have all the filming finished so we have plenty of time to edit by the last week of march. This will give as a solid week to edit and add any bits we want to make it better.

Filming starts!...

Just before we broke up for half term, our group managed to get about 40 minutes of filming in, for our 2 minute opening. We where only concentrating on the first minute of action but a lot of time was taken up by us discussing what kind of shots we think we should use and so on. We decided to film each take from 3/4 different angles, this would give us a different perspective from many angles allowing us to eventually pick the most effective angle or angles. Once we finished filming we put what we had filmed onto adobe premiere elements which is the editing software. I have so far edited half of the footage and at the moment as a group we are not sure whether or not we will even use all of the footage that we have filmed so far.

Change Of Script!

Shaun walking to his detention

Shaun enters the room

Silence

Mr Oswick - Oh, nice to see your on time for once Shaun. Get on with the work you didn't do period 3, I've just got to go and photocopy this.

Door closes as Oswick walks out, Shaun sits waiting.

Shaun - Oh F*** this he aint coming back, I'm going.

Shaun throws his pen at the white board and walks to the door. The door is locked. Shaun pulls harder and harder try to open it, the lights flicker and go out but then come back on. He turns around as there is a sound from behind him, there's a message on the board.

Shaun - What the F*** (start to scream and shout)

He tries harder to get out. Amplified sound of foot steps coming up behind him. loud screaming of agony.

Update & Time Management

Yesterday we went through a quick practise run of our two minute opening scene. This was to ensure that everything was in place, we all knew what we where doing at particular points and that we all knew what needed to be included, such as props. Doing this rehearsal enabled us to make sure we where happy with the camera movements and angles that are going to be included in our two minute opening. We have actually filmed about 40 seconds as well so we can all agree on how we are going to film it when it comes to filming our actually scene, next week.

Music/Sound

We are trying to find out what type of music and/or sound we need to combine with our film. we as a group were thinking thast we will use non-diegetic sound for the opening two minute seqence. We all fell that the muisic is one of the most important ascpect of making a horror film scary. If the music isn't eerie and spine chilling the whole scene will lose it's effect of being a horror film. In all great horror films the sound/music brings everything together to make it a scary film or scene. The sound creates tension within the audience which keeps them on edge and entertained. The music/sound that we plan to use will start off calm and normal but with a scary twist, but as things start to turn for the worst the music will become louder, jumpy and quicker. The music will fit into the shots as they will also be quick and jumpy to make the audience unsettles. We are thinking of creating a track ourselves with a friend of ours in his studio or we may use the internet to find something that we feel will suit our film.

Production

We have decided to use Rogue Pictures as the production company for our film, 'Detainment'. Rogue Pictures was originally launched by Focus Features under Universal Pictures. There goal is to produce "high-quality suspense, action, thriller and urban features with mainstream appeal and franchise potential". This is what our film is; supense action and horror and this one of the main reason in choosing Rogue to produce our film. They have over 25 films in its libary, four upcoming films and over 30 projects in development. Our decision to use Rogue Pictures as most of there film have been thriller/horror and as we are making a horror we thought it would be appropriate. They have made films like; Shaun Of The Dead, Seed of Chucky, The Strangers and White Noise: The Light. All of these films are well known and having Rogue as our production company will help us to make our film known and likeable but to a small audience but still makine a tidy profit.

'Detainment' Poster

I have decided to make a draft poster for our group and it could possibly the finished version to go with our film. The poster is very effective as the extreme close up of someones eye with cuts around it shows fear. The picture draws you in and makes you feel if the eye is looking at you for help, and using this picture is feels like you are involved with the poster.

On the poster i have put up the top the acting credits in white writing, just underneath that is our production company then below is the name of the film, 'Detainment' in big red capital letter so it stands out and people know what the film is called. At the bottom of the page i have put when the film will be released but for now we have just put 'coming soon' so it leaves viewers on edge waiting for the date of release. and lastly we have underneath the date of release, the production credits and the age certificate.

'Detainment' Age Certificate

A film rating system is designated to classify films with by the content invloving issues such as sex, violence, substance abuse, profanity, impudence or other types of mature content ands its suitability for the particular audience. We have decided to rate our film 'Detainment' a 18. Rating it a 18 will make sure we appeal to the really hardcore horror film fans. This still enable us to give a realistic gory horror storyline and lets us be creative with our two minute opening scene.

Language - Our opening two minute scene may include strong or explicit language. However throughout the whole film they might be some expletives and profanity which may be frequent and referred in a sexually manor.

Nudity/Sex - Our scene will not include any kind of nudity or will it included any sex or sexually situations at all as the setting is mainly at school and would be inappropriate to reveal any individual minimally clothed or fully unclothed.

Violence - In the two minute opening scene there small - medium amount of violence as there is a murder at the end of the opening scene, which will be gory. The viewer will be able to see that someone has been murder and there will be fake blood in use. The violence will carry on throughout the film and will be strong in some parts.

Drug Abuse - There will be no drug abuse in the opening scene nor in the whole film. The only thing is maybe someone smoking a cigarette to perhaps represent the personality of a character. We do encourage anyone to mimic this as it is only a film and drug abuse should not be tolerated.

Final Location

After discussing what location would be best for our horror film, we have chosen the old science block.

Story Board

This is the strory board of our two minute opening scene. The story board give us a general idea of what the film is about. It also allows us to play around with different kind of shots for our actual film.

The first picture shows how we will begin the film, a close up of someones feet that will create an air of mystery around what is happening and hopefully have the desired effect of unsettling the audience.

This second picture is a long shot which reveals who the mystery person was and shows that he is a student who goes to school. By taking the picture from behind and through a bush it gives the feeling that someone or something is watching him.

This is a medium shot picture and shows the character entering the classroom which he has detention in. The sign on the door suggest that the room might be dangerous or contain dangerous substances in there. By having the same character in the first three shots shows that he is the main character.

The fourth picture is a high anlge, over the shoulder shot which gives a good view of what is happening. By the characters body language it shows that he looks bored and would rather be somewhere else. It also shows that he is on his own with no friends around him.

This is when we become aware that he is in detention as we now have the teacher in shot telling him what work he needs to go through. At this point it would still be unclear to the audience that it is a horror and would allow to settle into a false sense of secruity.

This is a low angle/over the shoulder shot that reinforces to the audience that he is bored and looking at the clock to see if he will be able to leave without his mum knowing that he was in detention.

This is a long shot of the teacher leaving the room and trusting him to get on with the work. It suggest to the audience that he may get up to mischief or even leave once the teacher is out of sight

This shot shows the teacher gone and the door slammed shut leaving him alone

This is a medium shot and shows the whole character and what he is up to. As you can see he is trying to escape detention to get home quick.

The close up shot shows the character struggling to open the door and realising that it is locked from the outside giving him no chance of being able to leave the room.

This shot represents the lights going off in the classroom. Before the lights turn off they start to flicker which adds an eery effect and unsettles the audience

This is a medium and POV shot just after the lights come back on. In the actuall film there will be a message on the board in either red pen or blood that is for the main character.

This is the final shot at a high angle shot almost like a secruity camera. It shows the killer behind the main character and maybe suggest the killer has been hiding in the room all along.

Draft Script

Shaun walking to his detention

Shaun - I got a detention now so I'll be out later.

Friend on phone - Alright mate. see ya

Shaun enters the room

Shaun - Hi Sir

Mr Oswick - Sit down Shaun

Silence

Mr Oswick - I've just got to go to the staff room to pick something up

Shaun
- Alright

Door closes as Oswick walks out, Shaun sits waiting, but then decides to get up and try and leave.

Shaun - The damn doors locked

Shaun pulls harder and harder try to open it, the lights flicker and go out but then come back on. He turns around as there is a sound from behind him, there's a message on the board.

Shaun - oh s***

He tries harder to get out. Amplified sound of foot steps coming up behind him. loud screaming of agony.

Character Profiles

Shaun Mcgee – Shaun is being played by Matt Davison. Shaun is 16 years old and lives local to the school in a rough area. Living in rough area and not having a great upbringing and is usually singled out by others because of this. He is regularly finding himself in trouble at school either fighting or being caught smoking.

Killer – The killer is being played by Chris Marskell. The killer is another student who Shaun Mcgee doesn’t get on with. They have had fights in the past and loath one another. The killer lives a good life and is liked by all throughout the school.

Mr Oswick (Teacher) – Mr Oswick is hopefully being played by Mr Oswick if not we will find someone to fill in. Sir is a usually fun respected teacher, dresses trendy and has a good relationship with his students but doesn’t let any student get away with not doing homework.

Possible Location Ideas

As a group we have discussed that we are going to film our two minute opening sequence inside and around school. The reason being for this is because it is convenient for us because we can film whenever we want without worrying about weather and other factors that could stop us filming. Filming in school also give us the option to use extras and other props we may not be able to use if we we're filming in the woods for example.

There are five possible locations where the main scene will be filmed, they are; the E corridor, N corridor, upstairs S corridor, the hut outside or the old science block.

Shaun McGee who is being played by Matt Davison will be wearing clothes that fit a the typical teenage stereotype; hoodie/jacket, jeans and trainers. This will show that the film is modern and up to date with fashion possible letting the viewer compare themselves to the character.

Chris Marskell who is playing the killer will be wearing dark old clothes to show that he perhaps can't afford the latest fashionable clothes, on the other hand this could be a red herring leading the viewer away from who he actually is as he doesn't want to be known. He will wear a big black jacket with a hood to cover his face. He'll be wearing old ragged jeans and old trainers. The killer will be dressed opposite to the victim, Shaun McGee. this might show how their relationship is, for example clash of personalities which may tell us why he wants to kill.

Mr Oswick will be wearing smarter clothes compared to Shaun and the killer. He will be wearing shirt and tie maybe a blazer, trousers and smart shoes.

The Plot

Shaun McGee is a 17 yr old boy who has been held back for detention after school with Mr Oswick. Shaun walks through the door ands sits down disinterested and annoyed. There is and awkward silence before Mr Oswick breaks the silence when saying he’s got to go to the staff room to collect something. He walks out the door. Shaun looks up as the clock and thinks I better get home before my mum finds out. So he walks up to the door and tries to get out only finding that it is locked. He doesn’t worry. He goes to turn back and the lights flicker and then go out. He starts to panic but then the lights come back on and he turns around only to see that there is a message left for him in blood on the board. He turns to the door yanking on the handle, the lights flicker again. The killer slowly walks up behind him before slitting his throat. Shaun hits the floor with a thud. Then in bold the name of the film comes up “DETAINMENT".
